Saturday at the Brown County Eagle Classic the Freshman / Sophomore Boys took home 2nd place in a very competitive field won by Columbus North 79, MV 97, Zionsville 112, Bloomington South 113, Westfield 129, Carmel 136 and a host of other 6A schools. Winning the race was So. Caden Cassada in 16:24 with teammate Cooper Hunziker in 16:45 in 4th. 10th place was Austin baugh in 17:09, Tyler Tharp in 17:50 for 31st and Colin DeArmond 51st in 18:21 to round out the scoring. In the Boys race MV was moved to the Elite division out of the regular meet based on their 23rd state rank and took 15th place in a packed field won by Carmel. Colin Strachman led the way in 16:26 for 42nd in team scoring. Individuals without a team were also in abundance but not in the team score. Xaiden Jenson went 16:37 for 52nd, Isaiah Njau broke the 17-minute barrier for the first time in 16:53 in 71st, Brayden Strantz was 82nd in 17:09 and Matthew Cousar rounded out the scoring in 110th with a 17:53. MV divided their varsity runners among the Fr/So race. #3 runner Ahmed Saleh was held out this week with a minor irritation but will return next week. In the girls the 20th ranked Marauders were also moved to the elite division and were seeded 11th but they did not disappoint with a 7th place finish won by North Central. We have a new 5K school record holder as Hannah Hauser (So) ran an 18:51 for a 12th place finish, replacing Morgan Tharp's record set on the same course 2 years ago. Makenna Laffey took 41st in 20:00, Emma Gale went 20:12 for 50th, followed by Chesnie Willis in 54th in 20:16 and Tenley Benz in 72nd in 20:32. MV also placed 4 other runners under 21:00 with J Iserloth in 20:37, K Russell in 20:42, Lily Quinn in 20:44 and E Gasiorek with the same time 20:44. And finally the JV girls were not done yet with a good day as they finished 6th from an impressive field led by Kaitlyn Laffey in 22:05. There were approximately 50 teams at this meet.
