Game Recap

After a less than spectacular effort two nights before at Shenandoah, the 8th grade Marauders visited the friendly confines of Eastern Hancock on Thursday evening. The Marauders displayed a more focused approach, as they looked to show more hustle & heart against the Royals. The game started off as a back & forth shootout, but it took a few minutes before either team could put any points on the board. Dallas Turner started it of with a two, then EH came back with a basket. Ben Moss found himself growing in the paint as he collected a few offensive rebounds & scored on his own putback. Logan LeRoy finished off the first quarter by knocking down a three & an MV 7-2 lead.

The second quarter saw the Marauders really come to life as the MV full-court press dictated the tempo of the game & led to several fast break buckets. The Marauders exploded for 21 second quarter points, led by Cam Lusby’s 8 second quarter points (2 – 3’s). MV took a 28-4 lead into the half.

In the third quarter, the Royals were able to get a little offense going as they knocked down a couple of threes & put up 14 points in the quarter. But the Marauders outscored them with 16, as Scott Lohman low-posted his way to 6 points, while Lusby continued his three point barrage & LeRoy nailed a 3-point buzzer beater as MV took a 44-18 lead into the fourth.

The fourth quarter showed the strength of the Marauders as AJ Swingle, Kiryn Dahl, & Connor Cox flexed their muscles rebounding & hustling their way to several buckets, outscoring EH 15-3 in the final minutes. The Marauders heated up the Eastern Hancock gym, on a 20 degree night outside, by beating the Royals 59-21.

MV was led in scoring by Cam Lusby with 11, Connor Cox had 8, Drew Walker with 7. AJ Swingle brought down 7 rebounds, all while nursing an injured knee. The victory brought the Marauders’ record to 11-1. Coaches Williams & Slentz were extremely pleased with the team’s approach & much better effort in this game than what they saw in Tuesday’s game. The coaches look for the team to improve everyday & continue to build upon the season’s early success.
