The number of Marauders making the move to play at the next level continues to grow as the spring signing period opened up.

Blake Miller – DePauw University (Track & Field)

Blake Miller has chosen DePauw University as his college destination to continue his track career while pursuing a degree in computer science.  Miller has been a part of a very successful track & field program at Mt. Vernon, which won the conference during his sophomore (2015) and junior (2016) years.  Miller was a part of the 4×400 meter relay team that broke the school record and the indoor 4×200 meter relay record, the latter of which earned Miller and his teammates a bid to the indoor state finals.

DePauw University is an NCAA Division III school located in Greencastle, IN.  The Tigers are members of the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Nick Anderson – Anderson University (Football)

Nick Anderson will continue his football career at nearby Anderson University, where he will also major in exercise science.  Anderson was a 2016 All-County & All-Hoosier Heritage Conference lineman who helped guide the Marauders to 20 wins over the past three seasons.  Anderson also stayed involved at MVHS as a part of the spirit club and as a student athletic trainer.

Anderson University is an NCAA Division III school located in Anderson, IN.  The Ravens compete in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Nathan Seifert – DePauw University (Football)

Nathan Seifert plans to attend Depauw University to study Kinesiology while playing football for the Tigers.  Seifert was a standout linebacker for the Marauders, named to the All-County and All-HHC teams during both his junior and senior seasons.  While at Mt. Vernon, Seifert also spent time playing baseball and joined the track team as a senior, throwing the shotput and discus.

DePauw University is an NCAA Division III school located in Greencastle, IN.  The Tigers are members of the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Jackson Bond – Franklin College (Football)

Jackson Bond has chosen to follow in his father’s footsteps and attend Franklin College to pursue a degree in sports marketing while also continuing his football career.  Jackson came to Mt. Vernon as a junior having been a member of a 2013 state championship and 2014 state runner-up team at his previous school in Alcoa, TN.  During his two years as a Marauder, Jackson dedicated himself to honing his skills on the field, earning him the Most Improved award and All-County Honorable Mention in 2016.  Bond also earned two varsity letters as a member of the wrestling team at Mt. Vernon.

Franklin College is an NCAA D-III school located in Franklin, IN.  The Grizzlies are members of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Erick Shepherd – Ancilla College (Basketball)

Erick Shepherd will continue playing basketball next year at Ancilla College while studying broadcasting.  A 4-year letter winner at Mt. Vernon, Erick was selected to the All-HHC team three times and was also named to the All-County team.  As a junior Erick helped lead the Marauders to our first HHC title since the 2009-10 season.  Shepherd broke the 1000 point barrier during his senior season.

Ancilla College is an NJCAA school located in Donaldson, IN.  The Chargers are members of the Michigan Community College Athletic Association

Peyton Wuerch – Olivet Nazarene University (Football)

Peyton Wuerch has committed to Olivet Nazarene to continue his football career while majoring in business management.  A 2-year starter at center for the Marauders, Wuerch helped guide Mt. Vernon to the sectional championship game in 2016.  Wuerch also demonstrated his athletic prowess as a 3-year varsity wrestler, going 85-14 and qualifying for semi-state during his junior and senior seasons. An excellent student ambassador for Mt. Vernon, Wuerch was also named Marauder of the Year for the wrestling team in 2016.

Olivet Nazarene is an NAIA school located in Bourbonnais, IL, just outside of Chicago.  The Tigers are members of the Mid-States Football Association and Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Julia Wayer – IPFW (Volleyball)

Volleyball standout Julia Wayer has signed her NLI to continue her volleyball career at IPFW.  Wayer was a key member of a team that won back-to-back sectional titles in 2015 & 2016, amassing a 56-13 record in that time while playing one of the toughest schedules in the state.  Wayer finished her career setting the school record for the most digs and was named All-HHC and Marauder of the Year in 2016.

IPFW is an NCAA Division I school located in Fort Wayne, IN.  The Mastadons are members of the Summit League.

Ryan Beck – Indiana University Kokomo (Baseball)

Ryan Beck has chosen IU Kokomo to continue his education and baseball career.  Beck is a 3-year letter winner in both tennis and baseball during his career at Mt. Vernon.  During his junior season, Beck led the team with a .393 batting average and was a force on the mound, recording a 2.01 ERA over 45.1 innings pitched.  Beck helped lead the Marauders to an 18-9 record and 2nd place finish in the HHC in 2016.

IU Kokomo is an NAIA school located in Kokomo, IN.  The Cougars inaugural baseball season will be in 2018.  They will play at the newly renovated Kokomo Municipal Stadium.  IU Kokomo is a member of the River States Conference.

Will Dant – Indiana Tech (Golf)

Will Dant will be continuing his golf career while attending Indiana Tech and majoring in Sports Management.  Over 3 completed seasons Will has accumulated several honors including 3 Hancock County team titles, All-County, and All-HHC.  During the 2016 season, Will was an instrumental part of the first Marauder golf team to secure a sectional title, defeating the three-time defending champions from New Castle.  At regional, the team fell one stroke shy of the state finals, but Will secured a coveted spot in the 36-hole championship at Prairie View after winning a playoff hole.

Indiana Tech is an NAIA school located in Fort Wayne, IN.  The Warriors compete in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.

Maddie Keerns – Marian University (Volleyball)

Maddy Keerns signed with Marian University on 2/8 to continue her volleyball career with the Knights.  Maddy was a member of a Marauder team that went 56-13 over her final two seasons while playing one of the toughest schedules in the state.  Maddy helped Mt. Vernon repeat as sectional champions in 2016 and was named an Academic All-State Honorable Mention.

Marian University is an NAIA school located in Indianapolis, IN.  The Knights compete in the Crossroads Conference.

Josh Powell

Josh Powell – Indiana University East (Soccer) 

Josh Powell signed with IU East back on January 6th, making him the first player to be rostered on the inaugural team at the school, located in Richmond, IN.  Powell was a two-time All-HHC goalkeeper for the Marauders (2015, 2016), as well as an All-District honoree this year.  Josh helped lead Mt. Vernon to a 22-3 record in conference play as a starter as the team secured back-to-back HHC crowns in 2015 & 2016.

IU East is an NAIA school that competes in the River States Conference.

Luke Smoot – Franklin College (Baseball)

Luke Smoot will be continuing his baseball career at Franklin College where he will also study exercise science.  Smoot is preparing to return for his second season on the varsity baseball team at Mt. Vernon High School where he was a 2016 All-Hoosier Heritage Conference Honorable Mention for a team that finished last season 18-9 (9-5 HHC) and second in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

Braydon Augustinovicz – Franklin College (Baseball)

Braydon will be joining teammate Luke Smoot next season at Franklin College and will be pursuing a degree in athletic training.  Augustinovicz is preparing for his final season behind the plate for Mt. Vernon, where he helped lead the Marauders to an 18-9 (9-5 HHC) season as a junior.

Macie Dungan – Franklin College (Softball)

Macie Dungan will be continuing her softball career at Franklin College next year.  Dungan hit a solid .315 as a junior, posting 2 home runs.  She was also a lockdown outfielder for the Marauders, earning defensive player of the year honors.  Dungan will help lead Mt. Vernon into the 2017 season with a mission to take a leap forward in a loaded Hoosier Heritage Conference.

Franklin College is an NCAA D-III school located in Franklin, IN.  The Grizzlies are members of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
