Mt. Vernon played the 2nd match of their double header against #38 Bellmont at the home of the Braves. After a flat first set, the Lady Marauders dug deep to battle and defeat Bellmont. The 4th set (9th in a row for Mt. Vernon on the day), Mt Vernon held a 20-17 lead and looking to close out the match. Bellmont showed why they were one of the top 3A teams in the state making a run to overtake the Lady Marauders building a 24-21 lead to force a 5th set. Mt. Vernon showed incredible resolve making incredible plays refusing to lose as they stormed back to a 26-24 win and took the match. Some outstanding performers were Grace Hurst’s 33 digs, career high 31 digs for Claire Ertel. and another triple double for Victoria Bulmahn with 21 kills, 21 digs, 11 assists. Bulmahn and Olivia Yeley each had 5 blocks while Meridan Eads was dishing the rock for 27 assists.
Mt Vernon continues the busy schedule on the road at Shenandoah Monday and then host top 20 team Noblesville Tuesday for Dig Pink night to close out Mt. Vernon’s home schedule. The team then plays at New Pal Thursday night in a pivotal HHC match before ending the regular season at Chatard for two matches Saturday morning. Sectional play will begin Thursday, October 12th at Greenfield Central
