Mt. Vernon High School is pleased to recognize the student athletes who have chosen to continue their athletic careers at the next level:

Alexis Franklin – Anderson University (Track & Field)

Alexis Franklin has decided that she will continue her academic and athletic career next year at Anderson University where she will run track.  Alexis earned four varsity letters in track at Mt. Vernon, and was intrical in the growing success of the Lady Marauders track & field program.  Franklin was a regional qualifier in the 100M dash & 4x100M relay as a freshman (2015), and returned to the regional as a member of the sectional championship 4x100M relay as a sophomore.  Her 4x100M relay team also brought home county and HHC titles during the 2016 season.  During her senior season, Franklin earned her way back to regional in the 100M dash as well as the 4x100M relay.

Anderson University is an NCAA Division III institution located in Anderson, Indiana.  The Ravens are members of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Kaitlyn Nugent – Ferris State University (Softball)

Kaitlyn Nugent has signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her softball and academic career at Ferris State University.  Kaitlyn was a two-sport athlete at Mt. Vernon, earning two varsity letters in basketball and lettering all four years in softball.  As a junior, Kaitlyn hit .377 with 4 home runs.  Through 16 games this season, Kaitlyn is hitting a scorching .508 with 9 home runs and an impressive 1.084 SLG.  While at Mt. Vernon, Kaitlyn was named a Top Scholar Athlete in 2016 and 2017, All-County Honorable Mention (softball), East-West All Star (basketball), All-HHC Honorable Mention (basketball), and was named to the All-State Academic team.

Ferris State University is an NCAA Division II institution located in Big Rapids, Michigan.  The Bulldogs are members of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Trevor Bond – Illinois State University (Football)

Trevor Bond will continue his academic and athletic career at Illinois State University.  Trevor was a multi-sport athlete for most of his high school career, playing soccer through his junior year.  As a senior, Trevor earned All-HHC and All-County honors and was recognized as an Indianapolis Star Honorable Mention for the Football Super Team as a kicker.  Statistically, Trevor finished the 2017 season 21-22 on PATs and 5-7 on field goals with a season-long of 47 yards.  While at Mt. Vernon, Trevor was also a D.A.R.E. Role Model and a Marauder Mentor and raised $2800 for children’s cancer research through

Illinois State University is an NCAA Division I school located in Normal, IL.  The Redbirds are members of the Missouri Valley Conference.

Emma Langdon – Valparaiso University (Soccer)

Emma Langdon will join the Crusaders of Valparaiso University next year to continue her soccer career and major in Biology.  Having to overcome multiple knee surgeries, Emma remained steadfast in her goal to play soccer at the next level.  As a senior Langdon received All-Hoosier Heritage Conference honors and helped guide the Lady Marauders to a 15-4 (6-1 HHC) record that included a share of the HHC Title.  Emma scored 16 goals and recorded 9 assists in 16 games of action, with numerous impressive free kicks from long distance.  According to Emma, after visiting Valpo her decision was easy because it felt like the perfect fit for her.

Valparaiso University is an NCAA Division I school located in Valapraiso, IN.  The Crusaders are members of the Missouri Valley Conference.

Justice Hill – Olivet Nazarene University (Football)

After weighing several options, Justice Hill has decided to continue his football career at Olivet Nazarene University, where he also plans to study exercise science.  After enduring two significant injuries, Justice went on to be a two-year starter at Mt. Vernon, Justice showed his versatility on both offense and defense, playing running back, linebacker, and defensive tackle.  Justice led the Marauders in rushing yards, yards per carry, and rushing touchdowns during his senior season, earning Hoosier Heritage Conference Honorable Mention honors as well as being recognized as Mt. Vernon’s MaxPreps Player of the Game for our game at Greenfield-Central on September 1, 2017.  Justice is projected to be utilized as an “H-back” at Olivet in which he will play both the fullback and tailback positions.

Olivet Nazarene is an NAIA school located in Bourbonnais, IL.  The Tigers are members of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Robbie Campbell – Trinity International University (Football)

Robbie Campbell has decided to continue playing football at Trinity International University in 2018, where he will major in Marketing.  Robbie played football all four years of high school, lettering for three.  As a junior in 2016, Campbell was named to the Hoosier Heritage Conference Honorable Mention list, an honor he repeated during his senior year.  As a senior Robbie was also selected for the All-Hancock County Team, along with earning several team honors including Linebacker of the year, Co-Defensive Player of the Year, and Captain of the Year.

Trinity International University is an NAIA Institution located in Deerfield, IL.  The Trojans are members of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Grace Hurst – Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (Volleyball)

Grace Hurst will be continuing her education and volleyball career next year at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville where she will major in Education.  Grace was a member of a resurgent Mt. Vernon volleyball team for four years, earning All-Hoosier Heritage Conference and All-District honors her senior season.  Hurst was also named to the inaugural IHSVCA All-Star Team as a senior and was named volleyball’s Marauder of the Year.  Grace set the record for most digs in a season at Mt. Vernon and finished the year in the top 10 in Indiana.  During her time at Mt. Vernon, the Marauders won back-to-back sectional titles (2015, 2016), and accumulated a 98-34 record.

SIU-Edwardsville is an NCAA Division I institution in Edwardsville, IL.  The Cougars are members of the Ohio Valley Conference.

Hunter Davis – Cincinnati Christian University (Baseball)

Hunter Davis has signed his letter of intent to play baseball at Cincinnati Christian University in 2018.  Davis will be join the Marauders roster this year for the first time as the team looks to capitalize off of the hard work they have put in this off-season.  While at CCU, Davis plans to major in Sports Management and Youth Ministry.

Cincinnati Christian University is an NAIA school located in Cincinnati, OH.  The Eagles are members of the River States Conference.

Caleb Rush – Frontier Community College (Baseball)

Caleb Rush will continue his baseball career while studying sports management & kinesiology at Frontier Community College.  Rush will be entering his 3rd year on the mound for the varsity team at Mt. Vernon.  During his sophomore season, the Marauders posted an 18-9 (9-5 HHC) record, finishing 2nd in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.  Rush posted a 1.75 ERA in 6 appearances that year, helping the Marauders to marquee wins over Guerin Catholic and Decatur Central (@ Victory Field).

Frontier Community College is an NJCAA school located in Fairfield, IL.  The Bobcats are members of the Great Rivers Athletic Conference.

Dino Tharp – Urbana University (Baseball)

Dino Tharp will join the roster at Urbana University in 2018 while majoring in sports management.  As a junior, Tharp recorded a .309 batting average, driving in 11 runs.  Tharp will be a key returner for a Marauders team hungry for success in the spring.

Urbana University is an NCAA Division II institution located in Urbana, OH.  The Blue Knights are members of the Mountain East Conference.
