Marauders News · Athletic Leadership Academy returns next week

The Mt. Vernon Athletic Leadership Academy (MVALA) will be returning to Mt. Vernon next week!

What is the MVALA? This is a unique opportunity for our Mt. Vernon athletes to prepare themselves for their upcoming sports season.  The MVALA is especially designed for the leaders of our teams – boys and girls – from the varsity level through the middle school.

When is the MVALA? Tuesday, May 29th – Friday, June 1st in the MVHS Auditorium. *Tuesday’s session runs from 2-4pm, Wed-Fri run from 9-11am

What does it cost? $25 – cost includes your week at the academy & leadership binder (checks made to MVHS)

Who can attend? Any MV athlete currently in grades 6-11 can attend (7-12 next school year)

Who is teaching the class? Coach Daugherty (formerly boys basketball) will be leading the class. Mr. Ecker and other high school coaches will be participating throughout the week as guest speakers.

What will we do? The main focus of the week-long class will be to educate our athletes on what athletic leadership is and what it looks like.  Some of the areas of focus will include:

  • What does it mean to be a Mt. Vernon High School athlete? What are the goals and expectations?
  • What is leadership? What does it take?
  • What are the risks, rewards, and responsibilities of a leader?
  • What does it mean to lead by example?
  • What is vocal leadership and how do you develop it?
  • HOw do you continue to grow and develop as a leader?

What happens when the week is over?  If you attend the week-long class this summer, you will be prepared to lead your team this summer and next season.  You will also be enrolled in the MVALA for all of next school year.  You will have access to th MVALA library of leadership materials so you can continue to learn and grow on your own.

To Register: Cut off the bottom of the registration paper and return it to the main office, along with $25 (checks payable to MVHS) before the end of the school year.  You can also bring your registration to the first day of the MVALA on Tuesday, May 29th in the HS Auditorium at 2PM.
