MV defeated New Castle 18-9 on Saturday thanks in part to Dino Tharp, who drove in five runners. Tharp drove in runs on a single in the third, a single in the fourth, and a triple in the sixth.
There was plenty of action on the basepaths as Marauders collected 18 hits and New Castle had nine.
MV pulled away for good with 11 runs in the third inning. Jake Stank singled scoring one run, Thomas Obergfell singled scoring one run, Jaden Cappelletti singled scoring two runs, Sam McCarty doubled scoring two runs, Tharp singled scoring one run, Stank tripled scoring one run, and Payton Bovard’s sac fly scored one run for Marauders.
Cole Cain (2-2) earned the win for the Marauders. He went four innings, allowing seven runs on six hits and striking out two. Bovard threw three innings in relief.
MV racked up 18 hits on the day. McCarty, Obergfell, Tharp, Cappelletti, Bovard, and Stank all collected multiple hits. McCarty went 4-for-4 at the plate.
Mt. Vernon moves to 11-5 overall and 5-4 in the HHC. They’ll return to action with a home game Wednesday against Lawrence Central.
