  Place Points
Mt. Vernon High School - Fortville 0th 0

The 2020 Lady Marauders Track and Field Team travelled to Indiana Wesleyan on Friday night to begin their campaign.

With very little time to warm-up due to transportation delays, the Marauders found themselves behind the 8 ball in many of the field events. Undeterred, the Marauder ladies competed very well and walked away from the highly competitive meet with several impressive marks for the opening week.

The meet was unscored, as it is a qualifying meet for the Indoor “State Finals” in three weeks, but in a traditional 16 team meet with 8 places scoring, your placers were:

Long Jump: 4th- Danae Kendrex, 8th- Raelyn Stanfield
High Jump: 2nd- Eliza Bidwell- Ties the MV Indoor School Record at 5’0″
60m Hurdles- 6th- Raelyn Stanfield
60m Dash- Eliza Bidwell- 8th
4×800 Relay- 1st- Team of Kamryn Eason, Rilee Hartman, Alex Overshiner, Lydia Carrell- Currently sitting at 10th in the state after one week of competition.
4×200- Relay-8th- Team of Mariah Arnold, Raelyn Stanfield, Mya Eppert, and Natsuki Baba
Distance Medley Relay- 4th- Team of Morgan Tharp, Kaylee Taylor, Reese Hartman, Melinda Sue Cornelius
4×400 Relay- 2nd- Team of Kamryn Eason, Eliza Bidwell, Rilee Hartman, Alex Overshiner

Several other Marauders had nice showings, but finished just outside of the top 8, most notably freshman Mya Eppert in the 60m Dash just .02 out of the money spots.

Said Coach Coy after the meet, “I’m proud of the effort tonight. As Coach Simpson said, we really showed some heart. There are a lot of really young girls on this team with little to zero track experience, and I felt like our upperclassmen did a great job of supporting those girls and making sure that they are developing for outdoor season. I was a little bummed that we didn’t get much warm-up time for our field events and they suffered as a result, but it is what it is. Indoor is just a chance to have a highly competitive practice on a nice surface, but we do need to gain some of that experience in order to be successful when it matters. I’m sure we will have plenty of surprises both positively and negatively as the season moves forward, but it is a great group of girls this year.”

The Marauders will travel to IWU once again next Saturday, but due to spring break, the line-up will drastically change to feature even more fresh faces in the Marauder contingency.

That meet is scheduled to start at 10:00AM in Troyer Fieldhouse on the Indiana Wesleyan Campus.
