MV drew University high school from Carmel, IN in the 1st round of the Burris Invite.
#2 Chris Hays continued his stellar play with a quick 6-1,6-2 win
#1 Haiden Rose continues to find ways to win, lose and win to close it out.
#3 Lucas Griego got his 1st varsity match and lost to a tough foreign exchange player
#1 dubs Justin Lemke/Reece Powell shook off the early morning slumber to win
#2 dubs Dallas Turner and Joe Bowsher played well together to close out the match
and secure 4-1 win moving MV into the semi-final vs Penn HS JV team.
The second match of the day was a battle from the start. Penn is a perennial powerhouse up north led by the legend Eric Bowers. Penn’s team was gritty, talented and we should see some of those players soon on varsity this year.
#3 Reece Powell(moving from Dubs) was a “oh yeah, alleys bad in singles” match. As it went, Senior captain Powell got his groove and closed out his match. Reece could be a permanent move as the 3 amigo coaches are searching for the next Samuel J McCarty.
#1 singles, #2 singles and #1 dubs for MV all went to 3rd set super tie breakers. Rose and Hays got the yips and alligator arms for a portion of their matches. But, their resiliency and GRIT proved too much for the Penn players and both won.
#1 dubs Justin Lemke and the every spot guy Joe Bowsher found chemistry, positivity and bromance to defeat a solid team from Penn.
#2 dubs Dallas Turner and earning a 1st varsity match Owen Koon dominated 1,1 and showing why MV is off to a 5-0 start to the year with its depth.
In the Final Match MV(from the West bracket) faced the winner of the East bracket in Randolph Southern. RS was a gritty team and congrats on making the finals.
Rose Hays and Powell all won in less than 45 minutes(0,0 etc)
#2 dubs Dallas Turner and normal 2 dubs Jackson Dunlavy(had SAT and said he pretty much got a perfect score(update tba). They didn’t miss a beat and won quickly
#1 dubs of the new team of JJ(Joe and Justin) won despite Lemke looking like he had played 4233 matches that day and not just a 3rd match. Big Joe looks like doubles is where he is going to help MV this year and they won easily but took there longest time.
“This team continues to grow just like the mighty sunflower. We as coaches are continuing to water them with blood, sweat and tears. We are, feed them lots of serves, forehands, backhands, dippity do spinners and the coach Brandes wiggle woggle and fertilize the with burpees. I am loving their attitudes, being coachable and finishing when it matters most.” Great day today MV! MV is now 5-0 on the year and plays at Pendleton Heights where assistant coach Graham McMullen is still revered for his varsity career of 73-6(something like that, he tells us everyday).
Lets go MV and put the Arabians down in conference Play.
