Mt. Vernon High School believes that extracurricular activities are an integral part of the educational experience. Mt. Vernon offers a total of 21 different sports providing a wide array of opportunities for our student body to excel in athletics as well as connect with their school community.

MVHS athletic teams reflect the school’s philosophy and commitment to excellence and believe that education-based athletics is guided by a purpose that extends far beyond the results on the scoreboard. We hold firm that the purpose of education-based athletics is to cultivate students and provide invaluable life lessons that will help guide them toward productive lives after their athletic careers have concluded. The athletic department and coaching staff have identified six core values that are paramount to fulfilling our purpose:

Mt. Vernon is a charter member of the Hoosier Heritage Conference (HHC) and a proud member of the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA). We compete as a class 4A school in the sports of baseball, basketball, football, softball, and volleyball, and 3A in soccer. Individual sports in the state of Indiana all compete in a single-class format.
